Joan Gallagher
Joan is a tireless advocate for women in labor and a proud union leader. A resident of Northeast Philadelphia for the past 45 years, she has dedicated 32 of those years to serving the city and Local 1956.
Her journey began in 1992 as a School Crossing Guard in the 8th District, where she ensured the safety of our children with unwavering commitment. Just a year later, Joan stepped into union leadership as a shop steward, marking the start of a distinguished career in labor representation. She quickly advanced, serving as an executive board member and later as recording secretary of Local 1956.
In 2007, Joan was elected President of Local 1956, representing the hardworking men and women of her local. Raised in a union household, Joan embodies the values of solidarity, justice, and perseverance. She fights every day to protect the rights of all members.
As Secretary-Treasurer, Joan has brought her sharp oversight and deep dedication to safeguarding our union’s finances and ensuring our assets are protected for the future.
